The Good News
Here, in seven short installments, you'll discover what the Christian faith is all about. We'll take you from creation to Jesus' crucifixion.
A carpenter from Nazareth who suffered undeserved punishment, and why that means peace, hope, and eternal life for us today. Here you'll discover the Good News step by step.
1. Everything starts with God
Before anything existed, there was God: holy, eternal, and loving. Out of that love, He created heaven and earth, plants and animals, and ultimately us: humankind. Humanity was created in His image, meant to reflect His character, to know Him, and to live in relationship with Him.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...
Genesis 1:26
2. The Fall
Because love is only true when it is voluntary, God gave us free will. But in that freedom, humanity chose to oppose Him; through that disobedience, sin entered the world, and through sin, death. Since then, every human being has been sinful by nature and thus separated from the holiness of God. No amount of our own efforts can repair that breach.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
3. God's Answer: Jesus
God did not abandon us. Out of love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ. He lived as a human being, showed who God is, and ultimately gave His life as a perfect sacrifice on the cross. His sacrifice is sufficient because He was sinless, the perfect sacrificial Lamb. With it, He paid the world's debt and restored the way to God.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
4. The resurrection
His death on the cross didn't stop there: Jesus rose from the grave, conquering sin and death. His resurrection proves that He is truly God and that His sacrifice is sufficient for forgiveness and new life. This gives us hope: death and sin do not have the final say. God makes a fresh start possible for those who believe in Jesus.
He is not here, for he is risen, as he said.
Matthew 28:6
5. Receiving Grace
Salvation is not a reward for good behavior, but a gift of grace. God accepts us despite our mistakes and offers us new life. Those who believe and confess that Jesus is Lord and our true Savior receive forgiveness, peace, and a personal relationship with God.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
6. A new life
Through faith, we receive more than forgiveness: God's Spirit transforms us from within. Old patterns lose their power, and we learn to live according to His will. We are not perfect, but we receive a new identity: children of God, loved and called to a higher purpose.
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
7. The Bible
God reveals himself in the Bible: a book full of history, laws, prophecies, psalms, and wisdom. Everything ultimately points to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, in whom God's promises are fulfilled: forgiveness and restoration for those who believe. Scripture also tells of the birth of the church and the spread of the gospel. The Word reveals who God is, reveals our own hearts, shows us the way, and reminds us that Jesus will return to make all things new.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen. Yes, come, Lord Jesus!
Revelation 22:20
New Beginning
Jesus invites us to acknowledge our sinful hearts and give them to Him. His sacrifice has long since paid our debt; we need only accept it. When we do so, He opens the door to a new life: a life in which we experience forgiveness, peace, and joy that no human effort can provide. He wants to free us from the burdens we carry, break free from the patterns and addictions that hold us captive, and lead us on a path of love, grace, and truth.
That adventure begins with a simple, sincere step: admit you can't do it on your own, trust in His salvation, and invite Him into your life. Let Him renew your thoughts, change your choices, and heal your heart. God promises that those who come to Him will not be disappointed.
Psalm 34:9-10
Taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed are those who take refuge in him. Young people hunger and thirst, but those who seek the LORD lack nothing.
